Shortcuts for Modified Letters
Meg Wagner
Brailling accented Letters in Braille2000 is easy. The neatest thing about this is that you can set the code for whatever language you are transcribing, and B2K will give you the accented letter symbol(s) for that language with the same commands used for English accented letters. For example, if you want an e with the acute accent mark in English, use Ctrl + apostrophe and choose é and you will get ^/E If you have set the language to Spanish, you will get ! If you have set the language to French, you will get =
Languages can be switched whenever you need to switch – even in the middle of a line. The interpreter will give the correct interpretation for whatever language is set. (If you have only a few words of a foreign language in a document, leave the setting as English and use these same shortcuts to get the UEB accented letters.)
To switch languages:
- Right click on the Code button in the Control Panel.
- Select the new language from the drop-down box under Code.
- Click on Apply to ... and select where you want the new language to start.
When you come to an accented letter, use the following commands. Once the boxes pop up, you can release the Ctrl key - and the Shift key if you used it - and any other keys before clicking on your choice in the box.
- For the acute accent, hold down the Ctrl key and type a print apostrophe. (Remember to release those keys when the box of choices pops up.)In the popup box, click on the letter you want to have the acute accent. (Or you can ignore the box and just type the letter a or e or whatever.)
- The braille version of that accented letter for whatever language you have set will appear.
