Help Us Help You Create Quality Tactile Graphics

Sally Hart

The American Printing House (APH) created the Tactile Graphic Image Library (TGIL) to offer quality templates to assist in the creation of custom tactile graphics. APH recognized that creating a tactile graphic can be time consuming (especially when starting from scratch), and so the library was established, making quality and editable templates available to everyone. That is a bit of the history behind why you, as a registered member, have free access to download image templates from the TGIL.

The website imagelibrary.aph.org may seem a bit different to long-time members, and that is because we recently had an upgrade! Some of our favorite parts of this upgrade are the resources and services tabs. The Production Method tab helps you utilize the TGIL with the equipment available to you. The Resources Page provides links to documents, sites, and webinars to strengthen your tactile knowledge. An FAQ page, TGIL contact information page (spoiler alert: it is tgfeedback@aph.org), and a link to APH’s main site are also included in the banner.

The site’s categories are still divided into core and expanded core curriculum areas of art, mathematics, O&M, science, and more. The categories contain over 2,000 downloadable assets, but we need your help to continue to grow! As you can imagine, it is hard work to continually think of well-designed, general images that are useful and needed. We are hoping to collect your ideas so that we may expand our selection of images. What would you like to see added to the library? Simply send us an email with the specific types of templates you need or images that you would like to access. We will actively use this feedback to add new files to the Tactile Graphic Image Library.
